About

I read physics. I’m studying for an MSc in Computational Physics at Stockholms Universitet. It’s a fun mix of physics, mathematics, computer science and numerical analysis. I’m currently doing lots of simulation and modelling in Statistical, Atomic and Molecular Physics. I’m happy writing C++ or Ruby in Vim on OS X. I’m in the library at AlbaNova most afternoons.
I write songs. I’m a singer and musician in the folk indie-pop group Empty Set.

I love adventures. I’m probably happiest climbing the mountains of Snowdonia or kayaking in Stockholms Skärgård.
I live in Stockholm, Sweden. There’s a lot I like about life here: a close abundance of water and forest, intense seasons, beautiful architecture and charming people in one of the fairest societies around. Oh, and delicious kanelbullar.

I was born in Bangor, Wales and home is Manchester, England. I’m very fond of that big funny-shaped island, Great Britain.
I received a BSc honours degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Warwick in 2004. I designed and built bits of water plants as a Graduate Electrical and Control Systems Engineer for Biwater-Anglian Water in Peterborough from 2005 to 2007 and then designed and built bits of database applications as an Oracle Software Developer for Biwater in Manchester from 2007 to 2009.
¹ I don’t always have these things, but I try.
I’m a vegetarian and a humanist. The ideals of humanism were, I think, put best by E.M. Forster¹:
‘Curiosity, a free mind, belief in good taste and belief in the human race.’
Most importantly of all, I love Liverpool Football Club. I am also growing rather fond of Djurgården IF — I sit here and admire the clocktower of their 1912 Olympic Stadium through my window when I should be working.

² FF Dagny is the typeface of my Stockholm newspaper of choice, Dagens Nyheter.

I designed and marked up the site myself. I took inspiration from lovely sites like SimpleBits, Panic Blog, The Ministry of Type, Hicksdesign and probably others I’ve since forgotten. All crappiness is, of course, my own.
